Small pieces are printed several at a time on a larger sheet and cut apart. Here is how the planner and the app count them.
500 business cards, 9 x 5 cm21 per SRA3 sheet (digital press), 25 sheets with 4 % for set-up. Turned on their side, 7 x 3 fit where upright only 4 x 5 would.1.000 half-letter flyers3 per SRA3 sheet (digital press), 348 sheets with 4 % for set-up.250 presentation folders1 per half sheet (offset press), 270 sheets with 8 % for set-up: a folder opens to 47 x 41 cm, too big for SRA3.
The count
Pieces per sheet, then sheets
The sheet loses a strip along one edge where the press grips it (5 mm on SRA3, 12 mm on the 70 x 50 cm sheet) and 5 mm on the other edges. Each piece takes its size plus 3 mm of bleed on every side.
The app tries the pieces upright and turned and keeps the layout that fits more. The sheets are the pieces divided by the pieces per sheet, rounded up, plus 4 % on the digital press or 8 % on the offset press for setting up the press and the cutter.
Runs of 2.000 or more go to the 70 x 50 cm sheet: 2.000 business cards fit 60 to a sheet, 37 sheets in all. You can choose the sheet yourself in the app.
Folded brochures
Three panels, one narrower
A letter sheet folded in three is 27.9 cm wide. The panel that folds inside is 2 mm narrower so the brochure closes flat:

Why the sheet count matters
Small pieces are printed several at a time on a larger press sheet and cut apart. The app tries both ways round and keeps the layout that fits more pieces.
Some sheets are spoilt while the press and the cutter are set up, so the count includes a little extra (waste). The press sheets and waste in the app are a starting list for FARYON to confirm.
